Hair Kombucha Recipe

Updated: Aug 21, 2020

We screwed up our faces at the first smell of it, but then something happened...Kombucha love. We love to drink it and now it's time, my friends, to wear it. It is officially the time of year for pulling in and rejuvenating. Pamper yo-self, honey! With Hair-Bucha. This simple and magical recipe will get those crisp summer-sunned hairs of yours shiny and glowy and revitalized.

The ACV in this hair kombucha will help to fight infection, dryness, dandruff, and itchiness all while regulating the ph of your scalp and making that dry brittle hair of yours (ooooh and mine!) shiiiiiiine like the top of the chrysler building!

Have fun with this recipe! Play with it. You can't mess it up. Well you can, but I'll give you the run down so you don't, promise! Different herbs and different essential oils will have unique healing properties for your particular hair type! Go get em' tigress!

You will need:

-Mason jar

-Fresh or dried herbs (rosemary, thyme, mullein, lavender, rose petals...ANYTHING)

-Apple Cider Vinegar

-Essential oils (rose absolute, geranium, frankincense, lavender...)

Fill your mason jar up half-way with dried herb, or almost to the top with fresh herb, muddle it all up in there.

Cover the herbs with ACV! Fill the jar all the way to the tippy top, making sure everything is covered.

Let sit in a cool dark place for 2-3 weeks, giving it a good shake and some good energy every few days. Then strain and add your essential oils! 10-15 drops of each. Keep your essential oil dilution ratio to about 1 or 2%.

*If the herbs are exposed, you risk mold forming! Make sure they are completely covered.

Store in an airtight jar, in a cool dark place.I keep mine under the bathroom sink in a jar! A couple times a week add about 5 TBS of your hair-bucha to a pint jar of cool water. Then, after shampooing soak the ends of your hair in the jar for a minute or so before pouring the whole thing over your head, making sure to rub it into your scalp real good! Leave it in while you shave or wash your face, and then give it a quick rinse in cool water before getting out. The ACV smell fades as your hair dries! Now go enjoy your shiny new hair, goddess!

*Hair flips, superfluous running-hand-through-hair-age, and selfies all encouraged, but not necessary.
